Kong Beeji Jjigae (Soybean stew w/ pork & kimchee)
****This dish takes a lot of TLC, prep time & dedication, but is worth it if you love beeji jjigae.
****You will need a blender to make this dish.
****Sheen (old) kimchee works well in this soup.
they sell beeji garoo (soy bean powder) at the korean market that you can use so you can omit the blender step. that’s what i usually do, but it prolly tastes better with the fresh stuff. i looooove beeji, but i thought i was such an ahjummah for liking it.

they sell beejee at keunjip in ktown. i just had it over the weekend. very good!
i love this dish! and the plus side is that it’s good for you too. my mom makes it for me once in a while.

Fantastic site. I’ve bought endless Korean cookbooks through Amazon and the local Asian market in Atlanta, but you’ve got recipes on here that I grew up with but aren’t included in any of them. I’m trying to make Kong Beji and everything you’ve mentioned I recognize except for the Gook-Ganjang. There are so many dashi and soup bases out there that I can’t keep up. What exactly is Gook-Ganjang? Is it the anchovy/kelp base you mentioned on your recipe list or is it something else?
They have kong beejee at Kun Jip, but its hit or miss. At Chong Hap, in Jackson Heights, I buy the ground beans for $1 to make quick kongbiji. The containers there make a HUGE amount though. A pound of that stuff can make biji enough for years.
