I just got back from visiting Mr. Bee’s parents.  Mr. Bee’s mom had frozen servings of rice that she nuked in the microwave for a couple of minutes.  What a great idea!  It tasted great and is perfect for those times when you don’t have time to cook rice.  I’m going to freeze some individual servings today.

  • my roommate used to do that in college.

  • my mom does that with noorunjee, the burned rice pieces that form when you cook rice in a regular pot. she freezes them, and then you take out a few pieces and boil them in water and you get noorun bap!

  • it works well because you don’t dry out the rice and it can be kept in the freezer for a couple of months

  • ( @_@ ) Why is it when I put rice in the fridge, it gets dried out? Nuking it only makes it dryer…

  • my mom does that too. she sometimes opts for those packaged rice where you pour little bit of water (i think) and nuke before eating. she gets them at korean market in l.a.

  • but doesn’t the rice turn out dry??

  • my parents told me to do that too.. works great with leftover rice.. nuke it for 2-3 min, and it comes out hot and steamy as if just made..

  • hah, i never thought of that!

  • My mom did this for me when I was in college- she froze the rice for me in ziploc bags when it was just made, and I would thaw and nuke as needed.  I’m not sure why it doesn’t get dried out, but maybe putting some water in the microwave with it (not IN it, like a little bowl alongside the rice) might help.  I use that technique with leftover mac and cheese. Yay for this site!

  • yup.. do it all the time. make a nice big, 6 cups of rice even though you will probably only eat 2.. freeze the rest in individual servings.. dont need to make rice for a month!

  • hmmm that is a stinkin good idea. this is a great xanga.
