  • New York women trying out to be Miss Korea - not the sharpest gals around.

    bodyseoul060710_1_560

Contestant Jennifer Maeng says, “In a Korean deli or cleaners, say Ahn nyoung ha se yo. That means hello. They’ll give you a discount.”

My local middle eastern deli owner tries to get me to say ahnyunghaseyo every time I go in.  It annoys the fuck out of me!!  If I owned a deli and a customer tried to speak Korean to me, I’d prolly jack up the price – not give a discount.

  • i bartend on weekends.  when people come in that i don’t know and they say ni hao or ahnyunghaseyo or arigato or WHATEVER, i force a polite smile and am not overly friendly to them (as i am with most other people).

  • I don’t get it………..0.o

  • “Why do you want to win?
Audrey Hepburn said you should use one hand to help yourself and the other hand to help others.
    Which others?
I’ve heard in Africa they really need education there. I can help if I have the title. “

this sounds like it was straight out of zoolander.

    haha

  • lol i feel the same way

  • Mijin Park, 19, Philadelphia; schoolteacher and college student; in U.S. twelve years.
Sang: “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid.

    Why the Little Mermaid song?
She’s trying to get out of the sea to be a person. That’s me. I want to grow from a little girl to a young lady.
    What’s your favorite Hepburn movie?
[Long pause] I’m not really sure.

well – it is a beauty contest, not an intelligence contest.

  • hahahahahaahahahaha

  • LOL at that dude’s wandering eyes.

that last girl needs a bit more sun..

  • Lovely. I think Mijin Park is going to be ridiculed pretty harshly after that interview.

  • damn, why is that old dude lucky?
if a guy were to stare at a woman in that fashion in NY he’d get slapped

  • Too bad the girls who won paid to do so. The picture is really creepy!

  • I’d rather generalize about Korean girls in general being ultra-moronic than for all beauty/pageant contestants being so. This is friggin’ ridiculous. How does someone like Mijin Park get into an established college?

  • lol. i agree with you. and all their answers are retarded. haha.

  • oh nice. what a great job that must be!

  • yeah, seriously. its actually really annoying when someone tries to speak broken Korean to you or when they want you to say something to them. Get out of here!

  • omg…. i was reading the comments and thinking, NO…  they couldn’t've said THAT!!!  could they????  scary~

  • hahaha, those girls are retarded!

“I’ve heard in Africa they really need education there”

    no shit sherlock!

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA

  • Haha me too!

  • o wow!!!  that mijin girl’s really pretty!!!!!  i hope SHE WINS!!!!!  ahahahahahhahahaahhaha

  • it’s pretty sad that these are the contestants that would represent us korean ladies. unless the majority of korean girls ARE exactly like these girls, then we’re a hopeless bunch!

  • NOT b/c she’s pretty, tho!!!  hahahahahahahahhahaha

  • DANG!!!  THERE’S A WHOLE LOT OF ‘MIJIN PARK’ HATERS, IN THIS PLACE, eh??~

    hahahahahhahahaha

    i wonder why.

    ahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

im sorry!!!!!!  i’ll just shut up, now!!!  *^^*

  • why are they all lined up in their bathing suits, with their backs turned while that old ahjussi oogles them??  that’s so weird!  is it really necessary to have him check out their bodies like that for a beauty pageant?

  • ugh, old guy staring and sizing up teenaged girls’ asses.  thats just nasty.

  • Wow…Mijin looks really pretty…but I got to agree with “sammyslee”…that definitely sounds like it came straight out of Zoolander. PUH HA HA HA. That’s funny, but man is that really sad.

  • this article is too funny. it had to have been edited to a make the girls sound so foolish.

    right?

  • I heard that saying “ahn nyong ha sae yo” is effective for discounts at dry cleaners and nail salons, too.

  • LOL i’d do the same things. those jacktards!

  • girl in pink is disqualified.

  • doesn’t Ahn nyoung refer to an old person, or am I getting my Korean mixed up?

  • beautiful women… but honestly… some of those comments are just straight up RETARDED.

  • I thought I was the only one who hates when people go “say something in Korean”

  • hahah funny

    what short legs they have…

  • hahaha

    (funny picture, too)

  • I wonder if her advice would work if the person saying it was a snaggle toothed, 300 lb. woman.  Hmmm…good message there:  feign interest to get 50 cents off your next jar of kimchee.

  • that sh*t would annoy me too.  next time say…. ‘whaaaaat’s up you sand n*gg*r!!!’

  • and it’s funny how the other one says she “heard that they need help in Africa,” so she’d like to help there. haha.

  • LET ME TELL YOU!!!!  i was at the pageant cause my boyfriend’s sister was in it…(she should have won but that’s another story).  one of the judges were saying that 50% was swimsuit and talent was 5%…that’s pretty much how the finalists got there…that and the fact that they spoke korean fluently although that wasn’t supposedly a requirement….otherwise i doubt singing a song from the little mermaid or top of the world, which were two of the most heinous things i’ve seen in a while, would have helped them get to the top 5…my bf and i were literally on the floor laughing but also at the same time feeling embarassed for those contestants!!!!

  • I was reading through that…my god…and they want to represent Korea?  Puleeze….it’s almost as if they tried  sounding as lame as they could!

  • Phahahahaaaaa!

  • yeah. i hate that too.
more often they try to say it to me too.

    my favorite:
“People are still very—I don’t want to say closed-minded. But they won’t make out at the movies.”

  • omg…these girls have NO idea about Korean culture and what Korea’s like.  No talking on subways??

  • This is almost as bad as that one korean girl that was on America’s Next Top Model!!  Talk about making korean women look dumb!

  • waoh, I want that job.

  • wow. quite disturbing. never knew korean girls could be so uh…

    BLONDE.

  • word + when non-koreans greet me in chinese.

  • haha, me too.

  • omg look at the lecherous expression on that guy’s face. He looks like he’s appraising cattle for slaughter.

  • it’s a good thing AT LEAST they have their looks because…i don’t think…ah, i will be nice.. *lol*

  • That’s some demeaning shizz… having to line up like that for some nasty ahjushee to stare at the rear. Someone needs to tell these girls that there are better things to do in life.

  • wow, im subscribing to your xanga just for the recipes.. LOL

    great job BTW

    keep it up

  • that was so hilarious! they’re all so dumb!

  • look at those girls sticking out their rears trying to appear as if they have them!

  • why?

someone’s making the attempt to be nice by speaking in your language…

  • hope you don’t mind that i subscribed. i love korean food so your site will be a huge help. reading some of your entries made my stomach growl. keep up the good work!

  • how rude! had to get that out…but i’m commenting cuz your pictures are fabulous. but you know this, of course. korean food is the bessssssssssssssssssstest!!!

  • Do you really feel THAT offended when someone tries to speak Korean to you?  SHIET….yeah I noticed the “annoyed” part but still…

  • “I’ve heard in Africa they really need education there. I can help if I have the title.”

good lord. it really DOES sound like it’s a line from zoolander. before she goes and “helps” the africans that she “heard” were in need of an education, she should get a brain. well, at least she’s reeeelly reeeelly ree-di-cu-lously gooed luu-king.

off to the meat market you go!

  • what a job. and his wife probably can’t complain about it either…
