I went camping this weekend with 2 friends and we all agreed if we were on death row, we would want kimchi jjigae as our last meal – made with perfectly fermented aka sheen kimchi, thick slices of pork belly, and tofu. It would have to be cooked in the morning and served in the evening to allow for that perfect marination. A steaming bowl of rice would accompany it along with our favorite banchans.
What would you want to eat as your last meal?

I would also ask for kimchi jjigae, but of course I’d ask for the kind that takes 30 years to ferment. I’d be willing to wait for it. I’d substitute pork bellies for Spam, and those little rice cake pieces instead of tofu. Actually, if I was on death row I wouldn’t deserve a last meal. I’m assuming though we were framed for our crime.
i’ll probably ask for the same, i’ll take either spam or bacon but without tofu. galbi or bulbogi on the side would be nice too. how about miyukgook and some kimchi boochim? what the, my last meal is turning into a feast!
kalbi
me too without the tofu actually…. i only like raw tofu (except in soodooboo) but my friends said yes for tofu.
i think i just drooled a little on my keyboard. mine would be kimchi jjigae, too. i would die a happy camper.
kimchi jigae most definitely
I was thinking about this. I thought that if there was anything I’d want to eat, it’d be some kind of comfort food. Then that had me thinking… the best comfort food is food made by somebody you love who loves you in return. I don’t think it would matter. If it were my last meal on earth, I’d want it to be cooked by somebody I love who loves me in return.
Oh, I’ve been working on a submission for Koreancooking this weekend. I’ll send it to you tomorrow, so this entry can mature a little bit.
that’s a pretty good last meal.
Lawry’s Prime Rib dinner! ^_^ Hands down!
If I were on deathrow, I’d want to try to eat something risky like Tora-fugu, which is the most poisonous fugu (blow-fish). If I die eating it, hey… they saved money on execution costs! It’s illegal in the states though.
Anything kimchi in it. I love kimchi
kalbi alrr kimchi chigae =D
i think i would eat sushi and maki rolls~ and then finish the meal with fresh strawberry pie from baker’s square…
Soon doo boo Cheegae!!
But Kimchi cheegae would be my second choice.
definitely kimchee jjigage or mandu gook
either kimchi jjigae or soondooboo jjigae, my favorites. yum, sounds like a good last meal.
the last time i went to bash bish, my boyfirrend’s family came up with us and we had a bbq during the day before they left. and it’s been so long since i had a bbq with ajumas…. no joke! we ate lunch, dinner, and snacks there, and they whipped up some impromptu kimchi jjigae with leftover kalbi and kimchi. amazing. and delicious.
honestly i’m a bigger fan of denjang jji gae… or perfect komtang. mmmmm. with gaejang. MMMMM
i looove pasta so i would have to say any pasta with shrimp!!
hm… kimchi jigae would probably be at the top of my list… but if it’s my last meal… I’d ask for all my favorite foods and pig out, you don’t need to be healthy or thin in heaven
Yuummmmm
wow thats a tough one. id have to go with kimcheebokkumbap for some reason… preferrably served on a hot sizzling plates, fed to me by some hot naked girl. thank you.
that’s a hard one. good kimchee jjigae of course, but maybe some juicy galbi or even some plain galbi tang.
good call! i could eat kimchi jjigae made with sam gyup sal and tofu for days and days! with rice plus an egg on top! haha such a good and yummy combo!
chado and a good kimchijjigae. do i get dessert? i could use some good peach pie ala mode.
“last meal”? …..pfft…
it’d be first meal, 2nd meal, 3rd meal…..no such thing as “last meal”.
i think i ate like 1/2 large jar of kimchi this weekend…kimchi jjigae. i just couldn’t get enough of it. especially when you add in the rice…except, it was more like kimchi sautee than soup.
kimchi jjigae, galbi, spicy gaejang, and super fresh sashimi. mm MMMM!!!
A big bucket of fried chicken, corn on the cob dripping with butter, and some french fries. Oh, and a ridiculously large bucket of soda to help wash that all down.
i’d love some kimchi jjigae right now but my mouth hurts and i can’t have spicy food.
joe-gae soon-du-bu chi-gae~ nice~ hahaha! (man, that pics making me all hungry yO~) =D
I could eat kimchi jjigae for days haha.
galbi jjim
Hmm…?? I think I would ask for Gobjang jjigae, that’s my absolute fav Korean dish! But it has to be VERY SPICY! Not as good when it’s mild. Actually I get really dissapointed when they don’t make it spicy enough. Do you like gobjang jjigae? Do you know a recipe for that?
I want kimchi jigae, and so gulbi!
soondooboo with a plate of galbi on the side
wow….i dont think i can commit to any one thing…there are too many options in the world, and what if my taste changes by then?? im a terrible decision maker.
that’s EXACTLY what i would have as my last meal, but gotta be from my momma’ s kitchen.
nengmyun with steam mandoo – maybe it’s b/c it’s still hot in the south!
Definitely kimchee jjigae. That would definitely hit the spot.
I think it would be kimchi jjigae too, but spam instead of the pork bellies. Along with kalbi and kakdugi, the ones from the sulungtang places. They have the best! Hmmm…Now I want some for dinner. Or either that some kind of Italian food. Such a wide spectrum.
Japanese. Preferrably Nobu Matsuhisa’s omakase.
i’d want that or mandu soondubu.
pastaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!
i’d ask for the same thing..only my hubby makes it with spam and tofu in it…and the rice cakes and hard boiled eggs sliced on top!
gaaaaalllbiiiiiii! =)
bibimbap
where are the denjanjjigae lovers out there?? i’d eat the whole pot and die of gluttony.
i love jjigae
oooo that looks soooo amazing. that for sure. oh goodness.
GEEZ, that sounds good.

spam and eggs over rice… with some super shin kimchee
mmmmm

ARGENTINEAN ASADO *drooling on ur xanga*
cool
i love my gf’s kimchee jjigae.
i would want that.
hopefully she would accompany me for the meal.
2 in-n-out double doubles and animal style fries. its a california thing.
wow, that’s a hard question… ummm… my last meal… I’m sure i wouldn’t care about my weight or anything… so, maybe i would indulge myself with some Brazilian BBQ… yumm!
this site made me really happy. because my family is about to host a student from korea. and i don’t know much about korean culture.
that kimchi jjigae looks so good! i’m getting hungry all over again…
Bindaedduk (mung bean pancake)…..I LOVE that stuff. Also sweet potato juhns. And then patbingsoo to finish it off. =)
some fusion korean dish deconstructed and fancified, i guess. something that looked pretty. multi-course meal.
start it off light and simple with bay leaf and red miso soup and an endive-citrus-berry salad. and champagne.
then maybe a peppercorn crusted steak marinated galbi style served on top of a bed of sliced and lightly toasted with coconut and almonds-asian pears. leek puree drizzled on top. served with haitian style rice with some lime flavor made in a dolsot on the side. with a good chianti.
followed a tasting of 9 different mushroom amuse-bouches. with some kind of flavored green tea shots made to correspond to the flavor of each mushroom. with a loaf of good french bread on the side (dipped in garlic, lemon, herb infused olive oil) as a palatte cleanser.
end it off with a bed of grant achatz’s creme brulee bubbles
and dark moist cherries on a dish surrounding a large martini glass of homemade vanilla, honey, lavender(? somethin to make it less sweet) ice cream quickly dipped in chocolate so that the chocolate forms a crust on the outside rather than melting the chocolate. and that’s put on top of a bed of diced nuts and then good, fresh ground, fresh made espresso is prepped and poured over the chocolate-covered ice cream ball and everything starts to melt but the nuts keep it a little bit crunchy…
i have no idea how this would taste, but the key would be the decadence.
wonton tofu soup and some rich with korean bbq short ribs
denjanjjigae is yummy, too…mmm
