A friend sent me a link to this NY Times article on Korean chicken aka tong dak being all the rage.
Can’t have it without the moo (radish) and jalapeno. I’m gonna go check out the new tong dak place in Manhattan this weekend!

Where’s the best tong dak you’ve ever had?

Comments (42)
where is it?
on 38th between 7th and 8th ave.
Don’t remember who the vendor was, but my favorite tong dak memory is sitting in a lab at SNU, eating tong dak and drinking beer while goofing off late into the evening.
My mommy makes THE BEST tong dak!
Tong Dak + Moo + Japapeno + Salt/Pepper mix + Soju Bombs = YUM!
Best tong dak was in Korea, hands down. My friends and I would do take out of that 3,4 times a week. Best thing ever. And with the moo, ::drool::
best tong dak i had was someplace in ny called “baden baden”. better than any of the ones i tried here in la/oc.
the best i’ve had was in chicago….omg i can’t find a decent place in la.
in usa? *shrug* i dunno… i haven’t been to a lot of tong dahlk places… i like baden baden new jersey… and call me ghetto but i liked koko house in oakland… lol
haha.. place called mexican chicken in korea. i love how korean places stay open late and deliver. yeaah
go to Mahnee Mahnee in Flushing!
ohhhhhh that looks soooooooooo good.
i read it too. do u know where unidentified flying chicken is exactly?
Is this the same thing as the crispy fried chicken wings coated in a corn syrup/garlic sauce with whole dried red chili peppers? I get them at a Korean market.
They are the best. Only problem is I can never wait till I get home so I try to eat them in the car and they are really sticky.
holy crap, ther’s a bon chon in NYC now??? there’s one in NJ and the chicken is AWESOME!
but it’s not like baden tongdak. its just fried chicken wings.
there’s a bon chon in flushing too and it’s really good…an acquaintence of mine actually moved down to georgia to open a bon chon..i bet he’s doing well! i really like baden baden tongdak..i think it’s more so for the cooked garlic cloves that come with it! sooooooo good!
bon chon is good but it’s over priced. 20 bucks for f*cking chicken???
in chicago, its moraeshigae. in la its prince! oh and then there’s that hawaiian haruboji that goes around to all the korean festivals and roasts like 100 of them at the same time on these rotating spits that he attaches onto the back of his truck. those are like the juiciest!
oh yeah and if you walk down the street from the hamilton hotel towards the chunghwa apts, you’ll see a chicken hof on your left. order a mahree of the marinated chicken and you’ll be choking the owner for the recipe! oh that one is in seoul.
Yeah I agree, the tongdalk chicken at Baden Baden is the best in Manhattan, it’s heartier than Bon Chon’s chicken. The one at Players isn’t bad either – they serve it with a yummy dip (tastes like ketchup + gochujang).
never had bad ttongdak, esp if it came with soju.
the old baden baden in fort lee…
i will never forget that place.
nothing can compare form tha Motherland~ Korean food ROCK =D ! have a Victorious rest of the week! God bless peace…
yes. baden baden in fort lee had the best tongdak. they shut down though, and i’ve never been to the new one in pal park.
eric told me about this article last night…when bon chon opened up in fort lee, my coworkers and i went nuts. haha! we tried to order from there as often as possible. all this talk about tong dak makes me want to go to baden! haven’t had it in soooooooo long.
in korea. he he. but man alive… chopsticks?! i think tong dak is best with your hands
chomp chomp! and yes the moo-ooooo
“someplace in ny called “baden baden”"
32nd st, heart of k-town, second floor in the middle of the south side. WAY overpriced – $15 for half a chicken. it was good but not good enough to justify the price!
the editors re-updated that article and posted addresses at the bottom now.
mmm tong dak
my sister sent me the article yesterday. i’ve never had korean fried chicken and it sounds totally delish. i’ve had the chinese fried chicken. is it similar?
baden baden fort lee nj!
my husband raves about the one across from Jung’s jang bee in LA. I think it’s called OB bear or something like that. Off 7th or 8th ave.
i assume u’ve been to baden.. think u even posted pics from there before.. now, i beg you.. where is a comparable place to baden’s tongdak in LA?!?!!
Korea hands down, but not in Seoul. It was in buyeo in the backwoods country….
IN SOUTH KOREA BABY!!!!!! OMG, YANG YUM TONG DAK IS THE BEST!!!!
I’m cooking korean for a group this weekend, so your site has been beyond helpful!
i second the vote for mahnee mahnee in flushing (northern blvd.) it’s sublime!
oh my gosh i want that right now!!! YUMMMMMm~ is there one in LA?
the best tong dak i’ve had is in…..garden grove, ca. haven’t been too many places with tong dak. i absolutely love tong dak and it definitely doesn’t cut it if you don’t have the moo~
the new baden tongdak (pal park/fort lee border, NJ) is still pretty good.
gyochon chicken is the best in korea!
BADEN BADEN
there’s a place here in LA called New York New York Cafe…it’s a korean cafe/bar…and their tongdak is pretty good.
they even have sweet potato fries, which is always a plus.
I love your blog! There’s a place in Chicago called Great Seas – it’s like a hole in the wall, but they have AWESOME chicken. It’s really cheap too! I think you get about 20 pieces for about ten bucks. If you’re ever in the area, it’s on 3254 W Lawrence.
However certainly your expressions are realistic
