    Restaurant Review: BCD Tofu House

Soondooboo is something that I never make at home and always go out to eat.  I know that they prolly put tons of miwon (msg) at restaurants but it just tastes so good.  While I was in LA this weekend, I went to BCD Tofuhouse.  I love the fried jo-gee (yellow croaker) and geh jang (spicy raw crab) there.  Did I mention how much I love, love, love geh jang?  Crab is my all time favorite seafood whether it’s raw or cooked.

I’m personally a much bigger fan of Sogongdong Soondooboo (on Olympic and New Hampshire) myself, but BCD is convenient because they have so many locations including one by my parent’s house.

I got the suh-gguh (mixed) soondooboo which has pork, beef, and seafood.  I requested very spicy like usual, but they just didn’t make it spicy enough.

    Where’s your favorite soondooboo restaurant?

  • seoul garden on 32nd in NYC ktown =)

  • SoGongDong in Fort Lee!

  • you la folks dont know HOW GOOD you guys have it. *tear*

  • btw, i heart geh jang, alas i never get to have it.

  • i think that’s the soondooboo restaurant that sandy got food poisoning and almost ended up going to the emergency room or something.  after i heard that, i never went back there cuz she freaked me out.

  • they just opened up a BCD up here earlier this year but i haven’t had a chance to try it.

  • BCD’s fish panchan is SO AWESOME. i always request more :) YUM.

  • my fav place is in ktown in la. right around the corner of hodori. olympic and vermont i believe.

  • rowland heights……….on colima and fullerton rd……..or garden grove…….

  • BCD when i lived in cali still.. here in vancouver some korean people ripped off BCD and made a fake BCD..

  • Both SoGongDong and BCD are yummy…can’t choose. I’m learning to make my own, though, b/c Korean restaurants are a rarity out here in Kentucky!

  • so-gong-dong in english means SO-FRIGGIN-GOOD

  • omg I loooooooooooooooove BCD! Which one’d you go to? I usually get the Kimchi one but last time I went I tried the Ham and Sausage. SO GOOD. One drunken night my sister tried the curry. It was so nasty.

  • And I don’t know why I’m capitalizing ‘kimchi’ and ‘ham and sausage’ :X

  • sogongdong used to be my favorite and beverly soondooboo way back when was great too. my parents and i do go to bcd because there is one relatively close to my parents house, but they like to go to this other place in torrance (on hawthrone near sepulveda i think) which supposedly don’t use msg or chemical to soften the tofu or something. my current favorite place is li hua, a korean restaurant i recently discovered in soho/chinatown area which is 10 min. walking distance from my office. it’s on baxter and grand and people are so nice there as well. last time i went, heidi klum’s ex hubby walked in with some pregnant lady. i don’t know his name, but i think he’s suppose to be some celebrity hair guru. i like that place!

  • they have a BCD in Flushing. It’s good but don’t get the extra spicy. :-O it’s SPICY! I love the Tofu Hut in Las Vegas, across from chinatown. That place is good too. Or Tofu House in Atlanta on Buford Highway. Yuuuummm… I love winter cause you can eat lots and lots of soondooboo~

  • BCD on wilshire! there’s one in hacienda heights that’s good too! :O) i think their soondooboo is decent (i’ve made better soondooboo), but i LOVE their banchans :O)

  • back in the day i loved Beverly Soondooboo on Olympic and Vermont…. then Sogongdong like you mentioned… and now BCD only because it is convenient like you said.

In Rowland Heights I like the soondooboo place in that plaza on Colima/Golden Springs and Lemon.

  • sogongdong in fort lee… but the “la kalbi” at bcd in flushing is waaaaaay better.

  • mmmmm…..i go to seoul garden for my fix but i’m non-Korean so i dunno where is good to go in manhattan!!

  • the bcd is better in cali but sogongdong is better in jersey. pal pk is better than the one in ft lee

  • i love the fish and their banchans: pickled cucumber and juht

  • BCD’s the first place I’ve ever seen curry soondubu

  • BCD is the bomb!  I went there just to buy some of their gwehjang before.  I share your love for gwehjang.

  • we dont have it like that in japan. we make nabe(hotpots) at home. we rarely go out to eat them.

  • TOFU house! Do you have a recipe for Yuk Ae JJang? =)

  • i love crab, too!!!! my fav!!! don’t know where all the korean restaurants are here in london. we only know one good one by church which is closed on sundays.

  • I don’t know BCD even though I think (if I’m reading correctly) that it’s in California??? And I live in California!!! But there are a lot of places I don’t know even though I live in California. My favorite ¼øµÎºÎ place is on El Camino Real in Santa Clara…
By the way chopsuey119′s doggie is so cute!! awwww

    - shorty -

  • there’s BCD  near where I live (not in NYC or LA) but it just took the name and it tastes like crapola. damn, i envy you guys.  i love soondooboo and kalbi combo. yum.

btw. you have too many blogs now. i can’t keep up with them!

  • omg i love this xanga!  – i had bcd in la recently and thought it was too spicy for me, and i usually go quite spicy.  i guess i was just lucky that day…

  • BCD sucks it’s sooooo inconsistant between the different restuarants. I love I mean love Young Dong in San Gabriel and Las Tunas, they rock!!! very good very consistant but the service is typical Korean style, gotta yell for help hehehehehe still so funny watching all my people (Chinese) raising hands trying to get attention of the wait staff hehehe

  • BTW my wife doesn’t know the English translations for certain Korean foods so I guess I’ll ask you next time LOL

  • So Gong Dong in Fort Lee has the BEST soondooboo!!

  • Foood looooks good. XD I wanna try it sometime. ^w^

  • my favorite is in diamond bar – myung dong soondooboo.  nyc just isn’t the same.  bcd is whatever too.  i sent it back 3 times once, because it wasn’t spicy enough.

  • This xanga is…awesome.

  • Soondoobu is one of my favorite korean dishes and one I can’t master at home because my tofu is never as silky since you pretty much need to make it at home to get that consistency.

The fort lee place smells like rotten rags and looks very dirty (they don’t seem to practice good hygiene) so I never go there anymore though I remember it used to taste good. I go to the one in sunnyside called natural tofu which is good but the banchan sucks. Also they make it damn spicy. I heard the guy from fort lee was hired as a consultant initially to help them with the recipes and setup.

I heard Seoul Garden in Manhattan is good and I know there is a natural tofu branch in bayside/flushing which I’m going to try–I also heard the banchan is good.
