Wow 11 days since an update! That’s the longest I’ve ever gone. So sorry guys but my father-in-law has been staying with us for the past week and I’ve been really busy with my weddingbee site. I promise to make something yummy next week!
Meanwhile… yesterday I had a craving for ho bbang. I used to eat this all the time growing up but haven’t had it in years!
Ho Bbang (Red Bean Bun)
Directions: Remove from package. Fill a pot with a little bit of water and insert a steamer. Put in the buns and cover the pot with a lid. Steam the buns for about 10 minutes. Enjoy!

i have a bag of those in my fridge right now and i ate one yesterday! but it was bought at a store that brings everything straight from Korea YUM.. i just wrap it in a (slightly moist) paper towel and microwave for one minute.
seriously i have no idea how i will ever live without a microwave.
I like the veggie ones. Yum. I still remember stores selling them in Korea…large canisters full of piping Ho-pang rotating around in circles! You can even see the steam rising up on a cold winter’s day!
oooh.. I like the veggie/meat buns.
ya those are great
hahahha thanks for the detailed directions on how to “cook” hobbang
do you have any recipe for yuk-ggae-jang?
Today I was looking for a recipe to make ÆÏ Á×. The one with the little balls of dough in it. For some reason, I’m craving this. I came across this site. Thought I would share. It’s got a crazy amount of soup recipes.
Enjoy. If you have a recipe for paht jook with dough, can you share? Thanks!!! http://sfood.info/cuisine/soups/spk_0001.htm
hobbang! i haven’t eaten those in ages. my favorite is the vegetable hobbang..so good
ho ho ho.
= )
bang!
I’m definitely subscribing!!!!
i like the “ssook” ho-bang. the green one.
I’m so happy I found this site.
Thanks for setting it up. I’m an American who has been on a quest to understand Korean food. Of course you always learn about a culture through it’s food traditions.
I am curious about gho ju johng or however you would spell it in English. I have purchases the red bean chili paste (the kind in a red plastic tub) but I think the stuff at the restaraunts has other things added in. Like extra sesame oil or something. I would love to get a little better understanding of this wonderful sauce.
Of course I love Kim chee but my family doesn’t like me to eat it when they are around. I might convert them oneday.
I have gotten them to bbq restaraunts so we are making progress.
Also what do you call the fat rice cake, fish cake, onion and red sauce dish that has gho ju johng in the sauce?
The rice cakes are like a fat noodle.
i like these soooooo much better than the veggie ones.
love your site! except i don’t have my mom around here to cook for me, so i’m looking at your pictures and salivating!
omg, i loveeeeee hobbang! except most of the time i have to scoop some of the paste out because it gets too sweet!
