Mool Naengmyun
I looooooooove mool naengmyun in the summer. Better yet mool naengmyun with galbi. Yummmmm… I had some at the new Shilla Restaurant on 32nd street this week and it was just ok. I haven’t found a place in the city that has good mool naengmyun yet, but my favorite place in LA is Yu Chun Chic Naengmyun on Olympic and Serrano.
No I’ve never tried to make mool naengmyun at home – I think it tastes best at restaurants when the goongmool has that perfect slushy, icy consistency.
Where do you think has the best mool naengmyun?

yummy it looks like its almost like vietnamese pho. Is it?
pyongyang.
i LOVE mool nengmyun. its possibly my favorite korean food. ok – lied. all korean food is my favorite. but yeah, mool nengmyun definitely hits the spot on a hot summer day.
looks delish
What’s the secret behind nengmyun? I’ve always wondered. There’s this place chiknengmyun on norwalk and pioneer that’s pretty good and relatively unknown.
yu chun has awesome naengmyun
i think its called yu chun. i will take you one day. i want to know if its good nengmyun by your standards because i LOVE that place.
yoo chun DEF has the best mool naengmyun. their naengmyun gook mool is like no other. in palisades park, NJ
I think Chung Ki-Wa in LA is not bad. Beats Gui-rim bbq’s anyway. I like this dish, but I need to eat it at more places before I make a decision on it.
kangsuh in manhattan has pretty good moolnengmyun =)
yup, wat susie said. there’s a you chun in flushing and another one opened in jersey last year. it’s the chilk mool neng myun. SOOO GOOOOOD.
best mool nangmyun is in korea at the coex mall.. ^^ surprisingly at the food court.
damn i slurp that sucka down in record time~
yeah yu chun on olympic with their black noodles Ħ³Ã¸é is the best ever! i live in korea now and i still haven’t found anything that compares to that place on an la mid-summers day. but if you are ever back out here in the motherland doing research you must have û·®¸® ³Ã¸é. it is a mix of ¹°³Ã¸é and ºñºö³Ã¸é and is the hottest yet the most coolest taste ever. its so hot that you have to keep drinking the ¹° in the ³Ã¸é in order cool the fire burning in your mouth. if you stop and drink regular water, it only intensifies the spice. its funny how that works, but if you are korean then you know.
yu chun in pal park, NJ is the bomb. my fave is bibim nengmyun.
yu chun is the shit. so is the chic naengmyun at matinee on vermont and 7th. they put a slice of watermelon in there. yum.
There’s a place in Flushing, NY that makes shik-neng-myun (black noodles). Their neng-myun, original and shik, is pretty good. Not sure but it’s right next to Han-Ji-Bahk.
i think the yu chun in pal pk copied the one in LA. they had pretty much the same menu. shin po used to make really good neng myun too but we started to boycott that place … haha
hong ha myun oak in pal park (on broad ave and 46) has the BEST mool neng myun and i don’t even really like neng myun all that much.
my neighborhood jjeemjilbang has some good moolnengmyun with slushy goongmool. it’s bomb right after you step out of the fomentation room.
if you’re ever in the chicago area, cho sun ok has the best chadolbaegi+moolnengmyun ^^
my fav in the city is dae dong myun ok. but i think mool naengmyun tastes better when i make it at home. i have the recipe if you want it!
in the LA area…
shilla garden in gardena (the first place to use cook-at-your-table bbq), although i haven’t been there in several years — maybe a decade or so
and yongsusan (the korea branch is much more dynamic)
when’s the last time you came to LA? cuz there’s a new naeng myun place in town. but it’s not chic naeng myun
chil bo myun oak on 6th and kingsley
deh-dong-myun-ok had great mul naeng myun….also another place in flushing had good chin naeng myun but i can’t remember the name of the place.
I do buy the ones from the korean market because i haven’t found a place around here and it’s pretty good if you get the right noodles and soup base!
theres a yu chun in the city bee. it’s on 36th st. btwn broadway and 5th. same black noodles, same icy consistency. soju is $5 too…..
Shillia i remember goin there in Feb…looks really good but it does look like the vietnamese pho thogh i wana try it now and im hungry too
yu chun is the best, next to actually being in korea, that is…
my fiance linked me to your site bc i have problems with my obsession with cooking and food. yu chon in LA has the black neng myon noodles .. which i’m not a fan of (looks like worms). my parents who are also equally obsessed with cooking make the BEST neng myon at home .. now don’t bother making it from scratch … there’s a pre-packaged KIT that they sell that tastes as good, if not better than starting the broth from scratch. it has a handle on it, made with plastic, in the frozen section. TRY IT!! soooo good. and you can cut up kimchi and mix with sugar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, garlic and beeh byoh it too. YUM
i used to like chung gi wa in LA but then their naengmyun kinda went down the hill. god, i haven’t had good naengmyun in years! there’s def. ZERO in manhattan. >:( my mom actually makes a pretty good one at home, she says you have to make the soup base yourself though. i like mine with lots of mustard and egg yolk all crumbled into pieces. and of course, lots of vinegar! yum yum yum. galbi sure is the best with naengmyun!
kum sohng in floshing
THAT PLACE IN LA YOU MENTIONED HAS THE BEST HWEH NYANG MYUN IN AMERICA! i love that place.
my mom makes it the best!
chik neng myun in Flushing near the LIRR station…it’s soooo good there!
me too… i love Yu Chun Chic Naengmyun too!
this is definitely something I have on a hot day!
THERES YUCHUN IN NY?! THE LA ONE IS BOMBS!
if ur ever in chicago… solga has the best mool naeng myun… its the really really thin kind that almost tastes like korea. almost. i dont think i’ve ever had naengmyun in the u.s. that tastes the same as korea… but its close…
and korea, shinsaegae mall, top floor food court has the best naengmyun ever.
Surprisingly, the best mool naeng myun I’ve had was at this hotel in ktown. I can’t remember where exactly but I remember they had watermelon (instead of asian pear) in the broth and it was really good. For some reason I’m thinking it’s on 6th but I may be wrong.
naeng myun is my favorite Korean food too. I can eat it all year round. So when restaurants don’t have it in the winter time, I get upset. But it’s the best in the summer! In Chicago, I would have to say Cho Sun Ok has great naeng myun!
I looooooooove mool naengmyun anytime! haha

hey, i just wanted to let you know about an easy way to get some money!
>
Another cool thing.
all you do is fill out surveys and get money. the surveys are quick too.
Its legit. My friend from EB has gotten his paypal payment from it already.$60.
You get 20% of what your referrals make and 5% of THEIR referrals. it’s such an easy way to get cash!
love nangmyung but i like bibim nangmyung more. so damn good during the summer when its extra spicy and you’re sweating while eating it.
i LOVE mool naeng myun.. i’m wondering if the yu chun here in cali is the same as the one so many of you love in NY.
their chic naengmyun is to die for.
juuust kidding… just re-read the post and you said LA.. haha.. my bad.
there’s one in garden grove too… yum!
try Shin Po which is now located in Cliffside Park..
the best nengmyun in nyc used to be in the location where yang pyung is currently in.. not enough traffic for just nengmyun and it closed down.. boohoo..
I know this doesn’t really qualify as naengmyun, but I love, love, love the dongchimee gooksoo at gilmok restaurant (the OG in Cerritos). Fricken kicks ass. I’d take it over mool naengmyun any day.
i might be wrong, but i think there’s a yuchun nengmyun in nyc too. i always go to the one in pal park when i’m home from college, but i thought i saw one on 32nd and … 6th was it? it’s all a blur now.
there’s is yu chun neng myun in dallas, texas, too.. it’s GOOD~!
there is a yu chun on 36th street and 5th avenue across the street from the other korean restaurant, i forget what it’s called. their noodles are really good!
Tofu 88 in Atlanta, Georgia, has some great naeng myung. They also leave the condiments on the table for you to add to your taste, which is good b/c I always like mine with a bit more bite than most.
